Linux

I installed Linux on an old MacBook Pro from 2012. I installed KDE Plasma as the desktop environment. I’ve been loving it!
I feel a bit more in control of my computer (rather than the other way around). Retro themes have been fun to play with as well as configuring the layout to my desires. It’s not the solved solution that you have to take or leave—it’s a choice among choices (and then more choices within those choices, if you like). It works just fine for email and internet usage (including the Fediverse). I did have to do a little extra work to get a driver set up properly, but that’s what community is for. Like talking with your friends at school to figure out how to beat a hard video game.
I miss a little of the polish of some commercial options, but I relish the freedom of Free Open Source Software (FOSS).
Have you tried Linux? What do you love (or hate) about it? I’ve been dreading what macOS has become and the horror show that is modern tech. Bring back slow tech (forums) and freedom from personal data slurpage (and leakage) and have actual choices about how things work. Big tech are not going out of their way to keep us happy once they think they have us hooked.
